Rehearsals

Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, Feb. 18 at the B&G Civic Center, where most of the rehearsals will be conducted.  The rehearsal schedule and cast information sheets will be distributed at auditions.  The play will rehearse by scenes, with actors having a specific time to rehearse their scenes—based on the times they are available for rehearsal, which they will put on the play information sheet at auditions.

Rehearsals are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights and Saturday mornings.  Tentative rehearsal times are 6-9 pm during the week and 10 am-2 pm on Saturdays.  The last two weeks of rehearsal actors will have additional rehearsals when the entire play is put together with scenes and music.

Play director Karen Whitlock and stage manager Beverly Sharp-Cook, who co-stage managed Dig Deeper, the 2009 play, have been busy developing an actor and crew-friendly schedule and information materials.  The production staff is paying attention to the 2009 cast’s comments and requests to make the rehearsal schedule responsive to the cast‘s daily schedules.

Creative juices from Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton and Hampton counties have been simmering together since 2006, cooking up the perfect Salkehatchie Stew. For those who enjoy variety on their menu we offer community productions and storytelling gatherings throughout the year.

Salkehatchie Stew's 2010 play "Weathering the Storm"  combines South Carolina’s savory past and the diverse culture of South Carolina’s Salkehatchie region to create an unforgettable story for all ages. This play is packed full of individual flavorings that meld into a one-of-a-kind taste the Salkehatchie Stew calls “its own.”

For those who take delight in hearing legends and spoken history, we offer Storytelling Celebrations, an event serving up regional and nationally known storytellers.  Storytelling has been shared for centuries to educate, instill moral values and pass history and folklore to new generations.  Salkehatchie Stew will continue preserving regional stories to ensure that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will come to know and treasure local tales from the voices of our ancestors.

Stories have been carved, scratched, painted, and printed throughout our world’s history. By immortalizing them in plays, transcripts and digital recordings, Stew is providing valuable data for researchers and historians while building a local appreciation at the same time. We hope to generate mutual respect and admiration that will unite citizens from all backgrounds by incorporating storytelling into our communities.
