Salkehatchie Stew cooks have been busy gathering ingredients for several tasty servings of storytelling and our new 2012 spring play Lessons Learned.
Colleton is presenting the Colleton Collection of Storytelling's annual Downtown Walterboro Mystery Stroll on Friday, October 28, beginning at 6 pm. The Stroll is using a masquerade theme as part of the evening's activities. Wear your mask or come make one to wear and get involved in solving the new mystery. See the events page for detail and a copy of the Stroll brochure and event map.
Barnwell will present Sunday Afternoon Storytelling on November 6, with local tellers sharing the stage with Salkehatchie Stew actors performing scenes from the Stew's plays. Bamberg has planned early spring storytelling (the tall tales and liars are returning) and a repeat of the popular and successful student story writing and storytelling contest. We will update information on dates, times, and locations as they become available. A flyer with event information is available in the events section.
Check the Salkehatchie Stew and GoSalk South Carolina Facebook pages for information also.

Cooking the Stew for Community Enjoyment
Salkehatchie Stew is a pleasing dish of assorted ingredients and flavors. We are constantly cooking up a medley of artistic expression through theatrical productions, visual arts, music, and spoken word. Creative juices from Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton and Hampton counties have been simmering together since 2006, cooking up the perfect Salkehatchie Stew. For those who enjoy variety on their menu we offer community productions and storytelling gatherings throughout the year.
As you listen to our theme song, composed by marvelous Heather McCluskey, sit back and experience the rich culture of the Salkehatchie region. Just put together "a little bit of me and a little bit of you" and you will have some Salkehatchie Stew.
Storytelling has been shared for centuries to educate, instill moral values and pass history and folklore to new generations. Salkehatchie Stew will continue preserving regional stories to ensure that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will come to know and treasure local tales from the voices of our ancestors.
Please join us in celebrating this culturally rich and tasty story of yesteryear through spoken word and community productions. Your patronage is the key ingredient to our longevity and success.
For those who take delight in hearing legends and spoken history, we offer Storytelling Celebrations, an event serving up regional and nationally known storytellers.
